ART

Indian paintings provide an aesthetic continuum that extends from the early civilization to the present day.  Learn the basics of Madhubani painting, the origins of which are shrouded in antiquity, and a tradition states that this style of painting originated at the time of the Ramayana.


 

MUSIC

No musical system in the world ever contained a scientific yet aesthetic aspect of music, with emotions, seasons, time, feeling, and mood like Indian music. Unlike western scales which have a set number of notes not truly positioned, ragas have a defined position, as well as defined flows in upward and downward directions. This workshop explores these subtle features that make Indian classical music so very fascinating!

 

FOOD

After a welcome drink of masala chai, made by brewing tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs, you will learn to cook a gastronomic Indian lunch - complete a with starter, main course and dessert.  There are several food choices and we will pick one that best suits your palette.  After the class you will enjoy lunch with your host in a cozy convivial atmosphere. After your light lunch you are only minutes away from the ISKCON temple and the Lotus Temple and here you can enjoy the rest of your evening. 

 

BEAUTY & GROOMING

 The word "henna" literally means "to become queen". Mehndi, the application of henna is a form of body art, a tradition of India , and is considered a form of beautification much like makeup or jewelry. Learn to create intricate ethnic or contemporary designs and exotic patterns on various parts of the body. While traditionally Mehndi had largely been the ornamental preserve of the ladies, men are increasingly finding it a better alternative to permanent tattoos.  

 

FASHION

The saree is a traditional garment for women. It comprises a long single piece of fabric, expertly wound around a woman’s body, with the loose end thrown over the shoulder. Worn with a choli, or short, fitting blouse, the fabric itself can be very detailed. Learn the art of saree draping, wearing the fabric in various styles and turn a simple modern pattern into a stunning outfit.
